EPIC Modules 2012
NEW EPIC PROGRAM FOR 2012
In 2012 EPIC is planning to present a broad range of outreach activities to promote interest in and understanding of the theory and practice of psychoanalysis.
The program is designed to increase the participants' understanding of psychoanalytic theory in relation to their current work or psychotherapy practice. It may also inspire interest in further training in psychoanalysis, such as the new PPC@SIP course or the core formal training program in psychoanalysis (more details of each are provided on the Institute website).
The EPIC lectures, seminars and workshops are grounded in contemporary psychoanalytic theory and will cover a range of areas including theoretical, clinical and applied psychoanalysis.
The EPIC program
1. A one day workshop on child psychoanalysis (February, 2012)
2. An introductory lecture series (commencing May, 2012)
3. A seminar / reading group on primitive mental states (commencing August, 2012)
4. A series of seminars on assessment (commencing September, 2012)
5. A workshop on the psychoanalytic understanding of infancy (Dates TBA)
1. A one day workshop on child psychoanalysis:
The workshop will focus on exploring the debates around the "hows, whats and whys of working with children and their parents". Louise Gyler will present a paper about the aims and outcomes of her work with a child who was seen in long-term psychoanalysis, Pam Shein will present a paper about her experience of a short-term dyadic approach to working with a mother and child and Louise Hird will present clinical material for a 'weaving thoughts' discussion. The presentations are clinically focussed and will be of interest to both experienced and inexperienced clinicians.
2. Introductory lecture series
The introductory lectures aim to extend and stimulate thinking about psychoanalysis. They will have a clinical emphasis and will be drawn from a variety of contemporary psychoanalytic ideas and their applications. They will be particularly helpful for those who want to know more about contemporary psychoanalysis, those who are interested in considering training and those who might wish to learn more about how to think psychoanalytically about clinical or other applied problems.
The lectures are designed to be accessible and participatory and do not pre-suppose any detailed understanding of psychoanalysis.
