Raising the profile. Setting the standards.

With branches in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney, the Australian Psychoanalytical Society (APAS) is here for the benefit of psychoanalysts and their patients.

We are part of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA). Founded by Freud in 1910, it is the oldest, most respected international psychoanalytic organisation in the world. With over 13,000 members, the IPA sets and maintains global standards in the practice of psychoanalysis and the training of psychoanalysts, while raising the profile of the practice.

Part of our role is to ensure these standards are met in Australia.

Ethics and professional standards

Whether working in private practice, or public health, psychoanalysts undertake rigorous, intensive training.

All our members are bound by our Ethics and Professional Standards Code.

Australian Psychoanalytic Foundation

We established the APF to help develop the profession, and support the provision of psychoanalytic services to those who may otherwise be unable to access them.

The Foundation aims to reach members of the community in need, putting them in touch with specialists, facilitating consultations and supporting the delivery of psychoanalytic treatment. It is a not-for-profit charitable organisation with deductible gift recipient (DGR) status and all donations are tax deductible
