Next Training Program 2025

The next Training Program in Melbourne will begin in late 2025. We would anticipate that a closing date for applications will be in May, 2025. If you are interested in exploring becoming a psychoanalyst, please contact Dr Teresa Russo at trusso@bigpond.net.au You can request a preliminary interview to explore your readiness to apply, to discuss the training program and, where appropriate, to receive assistance in finding an analyst for yourself.

(Please note that we are not eligible to sponsor a visa application for prospective candidates from overseas. The website immi.homeaffairs.gov.au provides information about immigration.)

Training to be a psychoanalyst is an opportunity for an intensive study of ways of thinking about the human condition, our inner worlds and emotions. It includes learning to treat complex psychological problems within a therapeutic relationship where the unconscious processes that underpin emotional problems are the central focus.

The training is rigorous, time-consuming and challenging. It is also stimulating, enriching and deeply involving. As well as providing in depth theoretical and clinical development, it also includes the opportunity for self-exploration. A professional background which includes some kind of clinical experience is desirable. It is a requirement that successful applicants be in analysis with an APAS Training Analyst for at least six months prior to beginning the training.

Graduates become eligible for accreditation with both the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA) and Australian Psychoanalytical Society (APAS).
